Areas of Practice:

Criminal Defence

Inquests

Mediation

Richard Travers has built up a wealth of experience in conducting criminal trials over the years and is regularly instructed as a Leading Junior in cases of murder, white collar crime, corporate manslaughter, allegations of causing death by dangerous driving, allegations of child sexual abuse and internet crime. He has been described as being " .......... a tremendous presence in court whom juries love. He is incredibly hardworking and diligent about every detail of his work, but he has a down to earth approachability and a great sense of humour which make him a pleasure to work with."

He has a well established practice in Kent having practised in the county since 1988, when his then London set of Chambers first opened an annexe in Maidstone.

He sits as a Deputy Coroner in Surrey which has given him invaluable expertise in the conduct of Inquests. Consequently, this is an area where he is successfully undertaking an ever increasing amount of work in representing the family of the deceased or companies or other organisations who have been touched by the death.

In addition to his Criminal Defence practice, he has built up an enviable reputation in representing clients, both corporate and private, at Mediations of all types. He is said to have a great ability to digest complex issues in a very short period of time. This, together with his persuasive skill as an advocate has enabled him to achieve great results for his clients which has led him to be in high demand for this type of work.

He has 5 children and is a passionate woodturner with something of an obsession for turning large bowls, some of which are over a metre in diameter and, as his children will mercilessly tell him, good for nothing other than sitting in!
